Being Green is Easy !

We all need to commit ourselves to be a part of the solution

and work together with the bees,

towards the sustainability of our planet earth.

I am making a conscious effort

to reduce my carbon footprint…

by growing my own vegetables.

As you can see,

I have been very successful with my carrots.

I am still working with my peas and corn,

that will not only put more food on my table,

but as a by-product,

produce oxygen for all of us to breathe.

Come on people, we can do this !

The time is now !

Maybe Old, But Still Good !

Grandpa worked as a carpenter and built homes for more than 60 years.

Grandpa and Grandma raised up 7 children, 4 boys and 3 girls,

28 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.

Grandpa enjoyed playing keno.

After choosing his “lucky numbers”

he always replaced the pen properly in the puka.

His gnarled arthritic fingers

navigated the buttons in a smooth rhythm.

His great grandson came up from behind him

and carelessly leaned on the back of his chair.

“Grandpa, here you are…I’ve been looking all over for you.

How come you play this kind machine ?

The new ones faster and more better.

This one old… junk.”

Grandpa spoke no words. He just smiled gently.

“Grandpa, you going stay here ?”

“Yup”

“Okay then, I come back.”

Grandpa reached in the pocket of his favorite aloha shirt.

He struck a match and lit up a camel,

he folded his arms across his chest and waited…

“Congratulations sir, I’ll be right back with your money.”

Grandpa smiled gently.

Meet “Super Long” Ronald !

2010 January 22
Posted by podofwhales

The winter surf was monster huge, on the North Shore of Oahu.

We had our share of jaw-dropping surf action

and caught enough salt spray to feel like two li hing muis.

I pulled into the last parking space

at the Haleiwa McDonalds at the height of the busy lunch hour.

I ripped it in there, cause I was HUNGRY !

My friend who was getting out on the passenger side started yelling….

”o kum, kum, kum ! chai look , chai look !”

I didn’t know she spoke Chinese.

I ran over to the other side of my wagon….and there “he” was.

WoW ! Just moving right along, in no particular hurry…

Doot di doo… doot di do, dum di dum, Dim sum !

Human instinct kicked in…capture it !

Why do we do that ?!

I scooped him up in an empty mayonnaise jar.

I always have one in my beach car…

you just never know when one will come in handy…like now !

Whoa ! He was “Super Long” and HUGE !

The lunch lines were “Super Long” inside the Haleiwa McDonalds

so we decided to move on and headed up the pineapple hill, towards town.

As I drove onward…we enjoyed our new friend.

His name, Ronald.

Whoa ! if I had been just two seconds earlier

Ronald would have been guacamole under my front right tire.

What does Ronald eat ?

Since we found him at McDonalds and judging by his “super long” size and shape…

I think he eats FRENCH FRIES !

What are we going to do with Ronald now ?

and where and how should we release him ?

Drop him off at the Wahiawa McDonalds… ?

so he can get something from the dollar menu.

“Kinaole” (Do the right thing), Mona !

I drove down the hill from Wahiawa, back to the Haleiwa McDonalds,

and set him FREE !

I learned many valuable lessons from today’s exciting adventure.

FULL !

Half ! © www.MonaHo.com 2009

IF,

“full is good” and “empty is bad”…

conventional wisdom tells us that

an optimist will see “half full”,

and a pessimist will see “half empty”.

An optimist sees everything in a positive light.

Everything ? ! Hmmmmm ? !

How does an optimist see and feel…

about a pessimist ?

Accurate assessment of reality can not be based solely

upon what our senses alone perceive, thus

“It is always,  FULL !”.

It is believed…

The largest known star in our universe is 2600 times the size of,

and shines 500,000 times brighter, than our sun.

If it were in our solar system…its surface would past the orbit of Saturn.

It is 5000 light years from our Earth.

This star lives in a constellation known as Canis Major, “big dog”

and is also its namesake.

Here is a very rare photograph of the the largest known star in our universe…

the hypergiant  known as VY Canis Majoris.

To see the world in a grain of sand,

and heaven in a wild flower, (William Blake)

It is believed there are 1000 stars for every grain of sand on Earth.

God created the stars. (Genesis 1:16)

He determines their numbers and knows them each by name.

(Psalm 147:4)

God created you and me, and knows each of us, by name.

Sun © Mona Ho 2009

Our sun makes up 99.86% of the mass in our solar system.

At the surface our sun’s temperature is 5510 ° C

According to nucleocosmochronology !?

our sun is 4.5 billion years old….Hmmmmm !?

One million of our earths is equal to one of our suns

and the distance between them is 149.6 million miles.

Sunlight is vital for life on earth.

Directly, it is our primary source of energy.

Indirectly, through photosynthesis…

Photo synthesis ?! No, no…it has nothing to do with that

brand new digital camera with all the cool buttons.

Photosynthesis: plants capture the energy of sunlight

and converts carbon dioxide

into organic compounds like sugars

and at the same time releases oxygen.

In other words, we need our sun and plants to

EAT and BREATHE.

This morning when I woke up…

my whale was out on the lanai PLAYing with the sun.
